Start Sailing RYA Level 1

This course is designed for complete beginners who would like to learn to sail. It is an introduction to the sport covering the minimum knowledge required to get afloat under supervision. At the end of the course you will have a basic understanding of boat handling and sailing theory, and be able to sail a dinghy on you own. On successful completion of this course you will receive an RYA certificate for your log book. You will then be ready for the next step – Basic Skills level 2. This course includes practical work in rigging a boat, understanding and naming parts of the boat, ropework, launching and recovery, sailing techniques and wind awareness. This is supported by some classwork in sailing theory and the rules of the road. All training will be by RYA Dinghy Instructors and the club is a recognised RYA training centre. Guidance will be given on specialised clothing and equipment in which you may wish to invest in the future. For the purposes of this course no special clothing is required, but a change of clothing is recommended. It can get cold on the water so warm clothing should be considered. Your feet may get wet so wear an old pair of trainers or pumps. They should have a reasonable amount of grip. Personal bouyancy aids will be provided for the duration of the course. The date of the next Level 1 course will be confirmed soon. Book early to reserve your place on the course.   What to do next:
